LIMESTONE WOMEN’S SOCCER BATTLES TO 1-1 TIE WITH BARTON |
WILSON, N.C.— Limestone and Barton battled through 110 minutes of women’s soccer on Saturday evening as the teams walked away with a 1-1 tie in Conference Carolinas play. Limestone stands at 2-5-1 overall and 1-1-1 in the conference, as Barton picks up its third draw of the season (1-2-3/1-0-1 Conference Carolinas). “The girls were amazing,” said Limestone Head Coach Tina Weaver. “They’ve been gradually improving game by game, and we’re consistently seeing that the girls play with heart the entire game.” Both of the match’s goals were scored in the first half. Limestone’s Annie Polhamus (Fitzgerald, Ga.) scored in the 22nd minute as Kristina Silva (Pickering, Ontario, Canada) got the assist. Barton equalized about three minutes later as Rachel Lawson (Chester, Va.) blasted a corner kick that senior Jessica Corsey (Jacksonville, N.C.) headed into the lower left corner. Barton had one really good chance in late in the game, but sophomore Marissa Macri's header was booted away by senior Limestone defender Ashley Vaughan (Pickering, Ontario, Canada) for a non-goalie save. Limestone’s defenders were a major factor during the contest. “Amanda Lear, Brittany Owen, and the rest of our defensive unit really stepped up today,” pointed out Weaver. “Brittany Clark came up with some big saves.” Clark (York, S.C.) recorded 11 saves for the Lady Saints. The Lady Saints host Conference Carolinas-rival Lees-McRae on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Saints Field in Gaffney. |
