SILVA'S LAST MINUTE GOAL LIFTS LADY SAINTS TO 1-0 VICTORY AGAINST USC-AIKEN

GAFFNEY, S.C.— Kristina Silva (Pickering, Ontario, Canada) lifted the Limestone College women's soccer team to its first win of the season with her last minute goal as the Lady Saints defeated USC-Aiken 1-0 on Wednesday. Silva's goal came with only half a minute left to play in the game. Limestone stands at 1-4 with today's win as USC-Aiken falls to 1-3.

"I couldn't be prouder of the girls today," said Limestone Head Coach Tina Weaver. "We came into today's game with a totally different mentality than the last matches. The team proved it deserved to win. They played for the 'total 90 minutes' and knew what they had to do."

Both teams had chances earlier in the game. Lee Cribb (Spartanburg, S.C.) had a great chance to put her team on the board with 23 minutes left to play, but her shot was blocked by one of the Pacer defenders. In the 73rd minute, USC-Aiken's Jennifer Goodwin (Walterboro, S.C.) had a scoring opportunity on a fast break, but Limestone's Brittany Clark (York, S.C.) came up with a big save.

The Pacers held a 12-10 advantage on shots. Clark had seven saves for the Lady Saints as Nicole Westphal (Springfield, Va.) had two for USC-Aiken. Limestone had five corner kicks to the visitor’s one in the win.

Limestone starts Conference Carolinas play on Saturday when the Lady Saints host Pfeiffer at 2 p.m. at Saints Field.
