LIMESTONE WOMEN’S SOCCER LOSES TO LENOIR-RHYNE, 5-1

GAFFNEY, S.C.—The Limestone College women’s soccer team opened its season with a 5-1 loss to Lenoir-Rhyne on Thursday afternoon at Saints Field. With the win, the Lady Bears pick up their first victory of the season.

Lenoir-Rhyne’s Lauren Rosch (Knoxville, Tenn.) scored the first goal of the contest moments into the game, and had an unassisted goal in the 26th minute. Lady Saint Ashley Vaughan (Pickering, Ontario, Canada) put Limestone on the board 10 minutes later with a penalty kick.

In the second half, Lenoir-Rhyne’s Rebecca Lin (Northridge, Calif.) put her team up 3-1 with 15 minutes left to play. Lin scored again minutes later as she rebounded her own shot for the Bears’ 4-1 lead. Stevie Dellinger (Morganton, N.C.) scored Lenoir-Rhyne’s fifth goal in the 79th minute.

Lady Saint freshman goalkeeper Diane Boyce (Toccoa, Ga.) had 13 saves during the contest, as the Lady Bear’s Nicole Ley (Cupertino, Calif.) had three.

Limestone hosts the University of Alabama-Huntsville on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Saints Field in Gaffney.
