WOMEN’S SOCCER ADDS THREE MORE SIGNEES |
GAFFNEY, S.C.—Limestone College’s women’s soccer team has added three more signees, as announced by head coach Benji Walton. Savannah Evans (Athens, Ga.), Monica Velez (Crofton, Md.) and Theresa Giglotti (Columbia, S.C.) will join the Lady Saints program this fall. Evans can play as a forward or outside midfielder. She was a four-year starter for Cedar Shoals High School in Athens, Ga., and played club soccer for the Athens United Socer Club. She is the daughter of Jeni Evans and Bruce Evans. “Savannah is going to bring pure intensity and athleticism,” Walton pointed out. “She will be one of the fastest players on our roster next year. Her speed and ability to cross the ball will make her a great addition at the outside midfield position. I had the opportunity to coach Savannah when I lived in Athens. I am really excited to have a player with her intensity join our program.” Velez comes to Limestone after playing for Arundel High School in Crofton, Md., and is expected to compete as a midfielder or forward. She received Honorable Mention All-County and was a team captain in 2005. She competed in club ball with the Bowie Free State X Team. Her parents are Rafael and Felicita Velez. “Monica is another great addition for us in the midfield,” said Walton. “She will bring athleticism and the ability to distribute the ball effectively to our team in 2006. We will be counting on Monica to come in and really compete for a position in the midfield. I believe that with her leadership experience that she is going to be a true asset to our program’s success next fall.” Giglotti, a transfer from USC-Upstate, will play as a forward for the Lady Saints. Prior to playing with the Spartans, she was a four-year starter at Ridgeview High School in Columbia, S.C. She is the daughter of Debra and Peter Giglotti. “Theresa brings great experience and versatility to our lineup in the fall,” said Walton. “She played all over the field for Upstate last year, which is nice. However, we will be looking to put her back at her natural position at forward. Her speed and size combined with her composure on the ball will bring a significant boost to our offense. She is eager to get back to that position and help put the ball in the net.” With these three new recruits, the Lady Saints’ have a total of nine signees for the 2006 class. The other six new recruits are Jenna Mellon (Maiden, N.C.), Mandee Graff (Clearwater, Fla.), Julie Koch (Knoxville, Tenn.), Jillian Pratt (Lee Center, N.Y.), Rebekka Hagarman (Crawfordville, Fla.), and Brittany Clarke (York, S.C.) Limestone will open its 2006 season with two home games. The season opener will be played against North Georgia College (Peach Belt Conference) on Thursday, August 24 at 3 p.m. at Saints Field. In their second home appearance, the Lady Saints hosts Emmanuel College (NAIA) at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 26. |
