WRESTLING RESULTS FROM THE OHIO NORTHERN TOURNAMENT; SAINTS TIE FOR 27TH IN TEAM COMPETITION

ADA, Ohio- The Limestone College wrestling team faced some of its toughest competition to date at the Ohio Northern Tournament on Saturday. The Saints finished tied for 27th.

 Matt Hall (Hamptonville, N.C.) won his first match in the 125-pound weight class as he pinned Josh Hinojosa. However he lost to Payne Lint in the match, 16-7. John Harper (Walhalla, S.C.) also competed in the same weight class, but lost in the opening round to Chris Santucci. In the wrestleback, Harper lost to Josh Testa. Next, Hall defeated Testa by a 2-0 decision before losing to Sean Allison by a pin.

In the 133 pound division, Limestone’s Nathan Carmack (Miamisburg, Ohio) lost to Dan McNeely with a 4-0 decision. Carmack defeated Andrew Fisher with a 7-0 decision and advanced to face Artie Kaehler. Kaehler won that match with a pin (1:28).

Riley Pike (Alexander City, Ala.) represented Limestone in the 141-pound weight class. He lost his opening match to Kyle Norred. Pike won his first contest in the consolation round with a 7-6 decision over Alex Estrada, but lost to MarcAntoni Macias, 15-5.

The Saints’ Dustin Baynes (Liberty Twp., Ohio) lost a close match to Nick Wolf, 3-2, in the 149-pound weight class. He went on to lose to Ben Mellring in the wrestleback. Dusty Leutz (Naples, Fla./157 lbs.) faced some tough competition, losing to Ken Andrews. However, Leutz went on to beat Cody White in the consolation round, but lost to Jake Rohrer in the next round.

Greg Satterfield (Hampton, Va.) won in the first round 165-pound competition against Brad Brooks with a 3-1 decision before dropping a contest to Hudson Harrison, 13-4. Next, Satterfield lost to Matt Stahl in the wrestleback.

Todd Neptune (New Concord, Ohio) had a strong start in the 174-pound division with a major decision, 14-6, over Greg Jarratt and then had a 4-1 decision over Michael Burke. However, he was defeated by Kyle Vanderhyde in the next round, and lost to Nick Kraus by a 12-7 decision in the consolation round.

Limestone’s Dan Scanlan (Leesburg, Va.) forfeited his match in the 184-pound class. Mike Walsh (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) lost in the 197-pound opening round to Keith Garrard and lost in the consolations to Chase Minor.

Trey Moss (Red Bank, S.C.) and Kyle Elliott (Valdese, N.C.) were both defeated in the first round in the heavyweight class. Elliott defeated Joel Durbin in the wrestleback but lost the next match to Frank McGrath. Moss won his first two matches in the consolation round, but was eliminated from the competition by Tony Carothers, 4-2.

Limestone hosts the Limestone Duals on January 2 at 9 a.m. at the Timken Center in Gaffney, S.C.
