SAINTS WRESTLING IN 9TH AT NCAA DIVISION II EAST REGIONAL

PEMBROKE, N.C.— The Limestone College wrestling team is ninth in the 13-team field after two rounds of the 2007 NCAA Division II East Regional hosted by the University of Carolina-Pembroke.

Ian Barker (125 lbs.) advanced to the semifinals in his weight class as he got a major decision over Cory Weiss of Kutztown, 15-5, and defeated Lucas Huffman of West Liberty State, 4-2. Barker will face Belmont Abbey's Chris Neidermeier on Saturday.

Trey Moss is also a contender for the heavyweight championship. He pinned Alvis Scales of Belmont Abbey (2:00), and then defeated American International's Kelvin Valencia (Fall, 4:21).

Dustin Baynes (149 lbs.) will compete in the in the semifinals in the consolation round as he vies for one of the top four slots. Baynes lost his first match of the tournament, but pinned Belmont Abbey's' Justin Bates (6:17) to advance.

Mike Bush is still in contention in the 154-pound weight class. After losing his opening match, Bush defeated Jesse Creed of Newberry, 7-2, in the consolation round and will wrestle Kutztown's David Zeek tomorrow.

Todd Neptune also advanced in the consolation round and will fight for third place in the 174-pound weight class after beating Gannon's Michael Cavalier 10-6.

The NCAA East Regional will resume at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning with the championship bracket semifinals and the semifinals of the consolation bracket. The regional finals and fourth and fifth place bouts are scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m.

The top four individuals from each weight class will advance to the NCAA National Championship on March 9-10 at the University of Nebraska at Kearney’s Health and Sport Center.
