LIMESTONE WRESTLERS TO COMPETE IN NCAA REGIONAL FRIDAY AND SATURDAY |
The Limestone College wresting squad will compete at the NCAA Division II East Regional on Friday and Saturday. The tournament is hosted by the University of North Carolina-Pembroke in Pembroke, N.C., at the English E. Jones Center. Limestone will face some tough competition at the event, as four are nationally ranked: No. 5 Pittsburgh-Johnstown, No. 7 West Liberty State, No. 17 Newberry, and No. 19 Kutztown. The Saints have already competed against all of those teams except Kutztown, and have gained great experience wrestling against No. 20 Findlay and No. 18 Carson-Newman during the season. Seventeen of the competing individuals are ranked nationally in their weight class, including Limestone’s own Dan Scanlan (Leesburg, Va.), who is No. 3 in the nation in the 184-pound weight division. Thirteen teams and over 125 individuals will begin competition on Friday at 4 p.m. The first two sessions consist of preliminary and quarterfinal matches, plus the first and second rounds of the consolation bracket. The event will resume at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning with the championship bracket semifinals and the semifinals of the consolation bracket. The regional finals and fourth and fifth place bouts are scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m. The top four individuals from each weight class will advance to the NCAA National Championship on March 9-10 at the University of Nebraska at Kearney’s Health and Sport Center. The other competing teams include American International College, Anderson University, Gannon University, Belmont Abbey College, UNC-Pembroke, Shippensburg University, and St. Andrews Presbyterian College.
