LIMESTONE WRESTLERS FINISH 13TH OF 24 AT MIDWEST CLASSIC; SCANLAN TAKES THIRD IN 184-POUND WEIGHT CLASS

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.- The Saints wrestling team finished 13th among the  24 teams at the Midwest Classic hosted by the University of Indianapolis. Limestone’s Dan Scanlan (Leesburg, Va.) finished third in the 184-pound weight class. Heavyweight Trey Moss (Redbank, S.C.) was fourth in the 285-pound division.

Dan Scanlan went 3-0 on Friday in the 184-pound weight class to advance to the seminfinals on Saturday. Scanlan defeated Will Clarke of Wabash with a 14-4 major decision, and went on to face West Liberty's Chris Gibbs. He beat Gibbs with a pin at 2:31. He lost his first match of the season to Carson-Newman's Nate Jones, 14-5,  but got wins over Gannon’s Pino Scavella (7-5 decision) and Keeno Griffin of Newberry (3-2 decision) to finish in third place.

Trey Moss (Red Bank, S.C./285 lbs.) and Dustin Baynes (Liberty, Twp., Ohio/149 lbs.) progressed to the quarterfinals in the wrestleback in their respective weight classes. Baynes defeated Ted Hoag of Gannon with a pin at 3:15, Andy Norton of Upper Iowa with a 15-4 victory, but fell to Mark Carey of Central Missouri, 9-3.

Moss beat Mt. St. Joseph's Pat Thatcher with a pin at 3:16, and went on to edge Carson-Newman's Chuck Robinson, 3-2. Moss defeated Jeff Schossow of Adams State in the semifinals on Saturday, 7-2. He won his contest against Heidelberg’s Tony Carothers by forfeit, but was pinned by Dan Goodson of Upper Iowa at 5:34.

Limestone travels to UNC-Pembroke on Thursday, January 11 at 7 p.m.
