LIMESTONE WRESTLING DROPS THREE MATCHES

GAFFNEY, S.C.- The Limestone College wrestlers dropped three home matches today at the Timken Center. The Saints fell to Carson-Newman, 40-6, Minnesota State University-Moorhead, 33-18, and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, 24-13.

Dan Scanlan (Leesburg, Va.) had a 3-0 record for the day competing in the 184-pound weight class. He defeated his opponents from Carson-Newman and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Scanlan’s competitor from Minnesota State University-Moorhead had to forfeit the match because of an injury.

Scanlan got his first win of the day with a 4-3 decision over Nathan Jones of Carson-Newman. Kyle Elliott (Valdese, N.C.) also helped the Saints out against the Eagles, edging Charles Robinson 4-3. However, Limestone struggled and lost Carson-Newman, 40-6.

In the Saints’ second contest of the day, the squad was defeated by Minnesota State University-Moorhead, 33-18. Ian Barker (Summerville, S.C.) recorded a decision for Limestone as he defeated Casey Dischauk, 7-6. Dustin Baynes (Liberty Twp., Ohio) had four takedowns for his 9-3 decision over the Dragon’s Brandon Kok in the 149-pound weight class. MSUM's Nathan Ramer forfeited his match against Limestone's Scanlan, and Elliott's opponent also forfeited. But, Limestone would go on to lose, 33-18.

The Saints battled in several close matches against the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, but couldn't pull out the win. Three of Limestone's losses during the contest were decided by only two points. Barker and Nathan Carmack (Miamisburg, Ohio) got the Saints off to a good start with wins in teh 125-and 133-pound weight classes, respectivley. Barker defeated Peter Mazzetta,. 5-3, while Carmack beat Greg Kuchan, 7-6. Todd Neptune (New Concord, Ohio) got a win in the 174-pound division with a 5-1 decision over Adam Latella. Scanlan handed David Casper a 15-6 defeat.

Limestone heads to the Midwest Invitational in Indianapolis, Ind., this weekend on January 5-6. The competition will begin at 12 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday.
