NO. 7 LADY SAINTS LACROSSE TOPS NO. 9 ROYALS

GAFFNEY, S.C.-- The No. 7-ranked  Lady Saints lacrosse team topped Queens University on Wednesday afternoon, 13-5. Limestone improves to 8-1 in CVAC play (12-2 overall) as the Royals stand at 4-4 in the conference (8-6 overall).

The Lady Saints jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with goals from Melissa Howard (Ferndale, Md.) and Marissa Pesce (West Babylon, N.Y.). Queens’ Shannon Janney cut Limestone’s lead to one with a goal with 16:45 left to play. Lauryn Wise (Pasadena, Md.) gave Limestone the 3-1 lead moments later. Katie Ilott (Brooklin, Ontario, Canada) had back-to-back free-position goals for the Lady Saints, and Howard and Renee Albro (Purcellville, Va.) also scored to give Limestone a 7-1 lead at the half.

Ilott gave the Lady Saints an 8-1 advantage only one minute into the second period. Queen’s Erin Shultz had an unassisted goal shortly thereafter, but Albro answered with her second goal of the game.

The Royals had two goals within three minutes of each other to cut the score to 9-4, but the Saints went on a four goal run as Howard, Wise, and Pesce scored. Kari Slad had a late goal for Queens with 2:15 left to play.

Limestone had a 23-19 advantage on shots, while Queens had a 14-13 edge on ground balls. The Lady Saints dominated the draw controls as they won 15 of the game’s 19.

Limestone travels to Erie, Pa., to play No. 5 Gannon University on Saturday at 2 p.m.
