NO. 7 PFEIFFER EDGES NO. 3 LIMESTONE

GAFFNEY, S.C.— No. 7-ranked Pfeiffer University edged No. 3 Limestone in women’s lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon, 12-10. The Lady Saints suffered their first defeat of the year with the loss (6-1 overall/3-1 CVAC) as the Falcons improved to 5-1 overall (3-1 CVAC).

Lauryn Wise (Pasadena, Md.) had five goals and an assist for Limestone. Katie Ilott (Brooklin, Ontario, Canada) had eight draw controls while Melissa Howard (Ferndale, Md.) had four. Chrissy Grogg (Taberg, N.Y.) had two caused turnovers.

Lady Saints Shea Farrell (Blue Point, N.Y.), Ilott, Renee Albro (Purcellville, Va.), Danielle Tosky (Bluffton, S.C.), and Marissa Pesce (West Babylon, N.Y.) each scored a goal.

Jenn Gappert scored five goals for Pfeiffer, and Brenna Clark and Heidi Karaszkiewicz each chipped in two goals. Goalkeeper Kristen Kibler recorded 11 saves as she faced 23 shots.

Though the Falcons scored the game’s first goal, Limestone had as much as three goal advantage in the first period. Pfeiffer fought back to cut the Lady Saints lead to 7-6 at half.

The Lady Saints scored two goals for a 9-6 lead at the start of the second half. Pfeiffer answered with five goals in a row go ahead 11-9. Limestone’s Wise had a goal with two-and-a-half minutes left in regulation to cut the Falcons’ lead to one, but Pfeiffer’s Patty Hunter had a goal with less that a minute left to seal the win.

Limestone hosts New Haven tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Saints Field. Sunday is also Senior Day for the Lady Saints as they recognize Jean Bradley, Jessica Green, and Jessica Verran.
