NO. 4 LADY SAINTS EDGE BELMONT ABBEY |
GAFFNEY, S.C.— The No. 4 Limestone women’s lacrosse team came away with a close 11-10 win over CVAC-rival Belmont Abbey on Wednesday afternoon at Saints Field. Limestone improves to 4-0 for the season (3-0 CVAC) as the Crusaders stand at 4-2 overall (3-2 CVAC).
Belmont Abbey had a chance to tie the game with about a minute left, but the referees called a charge on the Crusaders in Limestone’s defensive zone to give the ball back to the Lady Saints. Belmont Abbey outscored Limestone 5-3 in the second period, but the Lady Saints 8-5 lead at halftime was enough for squad to get the victory.
Lauryn Wise (Pasadena, Md.) led the Lady Saints with three goals, as Kelly Lickert (Penn Yan, N.Y.) and Shea Farrell (Blue Point, N.Y.) each score twice. Marissa Pesce (West Babylon, N.Y.), Renee Albro (Purcellville, Va.), Terri George (Jordan, N.Y.), and Danielle Tosky (Bluffton, S.C.) also scored in the win. Lickert and Pesce each tallied an assist. Shannon Farden and Laurie Jordan each had three goals for the Abbey, while Brianna Dignan and Chrissy Stokes had two goals. Limestone goalkeeper Erin Cavanaugh (Ellicott City, Md.) came up with some big saves to keep the Lady Saints in the game as she posted 10 saves for the contest. Belmont Abbey’s Kate Gavin had seven saves for her team. Each team posted 22 shots for the contest, with Belmont Abbey getting 16-15 edge on ground balls. The Lady Saints travel to Clinton, S.C., on Sunday to play Presbyterian at 7 p.m. |
