NO. 4 LADY SAINTS LACROSSE OPENS SEASON WITH 14-4 WIN OVER ST. ANDREWS

LAURINBURG, N.C.--  The No. 4 Limestone College women’s lacrosse team opened the season with a 14-4 win over St. Andrews on Saturday afternoon in Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference action. Limestone stands at 1-0 overall (1-0 CVAC) while St. Andrews is off to a 0-1 start to the season (0-1 CVAC).

Limestone out-shot the Knights 43-12, while both teams were nearly even with ground balls (SAPC-33, LC-31). St. Andrews had 17 turnovers compared to the Lady Saints’ 10. The visitors dominated on the draw control, winning 14 draws compared to SAPC’s six.

Marissa Pesce (West Babylon, N.Y.) led the Lady Saints with five goals. Kelly Lickert (Penn Yan, N.Y.) recorded two goals and two assists. Lauryn Wise (Pasadena, Md.) and Lauren Askerberg (Huntingdon, N.Y.) each tallied a goal and an assist. Summer Ferraro (East Setauket, N.Y.) scored two goals, while Terri George (Jordan, N.Y.), Shea Farrell (Blue Point, N.Y.), Kelly Oterson (Islip Terrace, N.Y.), and Aricka Piersma (Columbia, S.C.) each scored once. Danielle Tosky (Bluffton, S.C.) and Melissa Howard (Ferndale, Md.) both had a pair of assists.

Erin Cavanaugh (Ellicott City, Md.) had seven saves for the Lady Saints. Askerberg also had three caused turnovers for Limestone, while Ferraro had a team-high six ground balls.

St. Andrews’ Bryn McCaffrey had 20 saves for the match.

Limestone returns to Gaffney, S.C., for its next match on Wednesday, February 21 against Lees-McRae at 3:30 p.m.
