LADY SAINTS DOWN QUEENS 84-62 IN CONFERENCE

CHARLOTTE, NC – The Lady Saints basketball team downed Queens University Tuesday night in Charlotte. The Saints advance to 2-3 overall, 1-0 in Conference Carolinas while the Royals dropped to 1-1 overall, 0-1 in league play. Addie Graves (Columbia, SC) led all scorers with 15 points and grabbed 8 boards in the win. With the score tied at 4-4 early in the game, the Saints went on a 14-2 run and never trailed again as the Royals would only cut the lead to 7 with 3:00 minutes to go in the first half. The Saints headed into the half with a 45-30 lead, shooting an amazing 52% (13-25) from the field and holding the Royals to a 37% (11-30) shooting percentage first half. Although the Royals scored the first field goal of the second half, the Saints pushed their lead to 21 halfway through the period and would go on to lead by as many as 24 points late in the game. The strong lead was due to a very strong day shooting as the Saints shot 57% from beyond the arc and 42% from the field in the second half. The Royals did shoot 46% from the field in the half, but the difference was Queens inability to land shots from beyond the three-point arc. The Royals went 0-4 in the half and was unable to cut into the Limestone lead. For the Royals, Jacquia Winstead had 13 points and 2 assists. Marissa Hudley and Cecilia Tchangoue added 10 points respectively. Markeisha Hicks dominated the boards ending the contest with 10 rebounds. Behind Graves strong performance in the paint, four other Saints scored in double-digits with Lindsay Kyle (Springfield, VA) up next with 12 points, shooting 3 of 5 from the 3-point line. Essence Greer (Washington, D.C.) added 11 points in the paint. Tierney Burdett (Peoria, Ill.) and Ariel Lyons (Brandon, Fla.) both contributed 10 points a piece to round out the Saints leading scorers. In addition to her offensive contribution, Lyons also added 6 rebounds, 6 assists, and 5 steals for an all around strong performance. The Saints shot 47% (24-51) from the field for the game, a team high for the season. The Lady Saints will be resume action on Saturday when they travel to Spartanburg, SC to visit NCAA Division I-A, USC-Upstate. Tip off is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
