BELMONT, N.C. - The Belmont Abbey women's basketball team erased a 28-24
halftime deficit by outscoring Limestone 29-18 in the second half as
the Crusaders advanced to the semifinal round of the 2008 Conference
Carolinas Tournament with a 53-46 win over the Lady Saints this evening.
The Abbey, seeded fourth, improves to 19-9, while Limestone ends its
season at 16-15.
The Abbey shot 38 percent (19-50) from the floor as Marie Marquez (Greenville,
S.C.) led all scorers with 17 points on 5-10 shooting. She also had five
assists and four steals. Courtney Naquin (Virginia Beach, Va.) added
15 points on 4-9 shooting, including a 4-7 effort from three-point range.
Asha Hardaway (Greensboro, N.C.) added 10 points and a team-high six rebounds.
Limestone shot 39.5 percent (17-43) as it was led by Stephanie Munoz's
(East Peoria, Ill.) 15 points on 5-9 shooting from the floor, and Addie
Graves (Columbia, S.C.) added 11 points on 5-7 shooting from the field.
Tiffany Jones (Greer, S.C.) led the Lady Saints with five assists and
Ariel Lyons (Brandon, Fla.) finished with three steals.
The Abbey advances to face the top-seed in the tournament, the Anderson
Lady Trojans. That game will be played Thursday night in Anderson at
a time to be determined.
