LADY SAINTS BASKETBALL ENDS REGULAR SEASON WITH 80-58 WIN OVER PFEIFFER

GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Lady Saints basketball team ended the 2007-08 regular season with an 80-58 home showing over Pfeiffer University on Friday night.  Monica Adams (Kings Mountain, N.C.) and sharp-shooter Shelly Robinson (Belmont, N.C.) led the Lady Saints with 14 and 12 points, respectively.  Robinson was 4-for-4 from the beyond the arc, helping the Saints shoot 50% from 3-point range and 69.6% from the field. The Saints improved to 16-14 overall, 11-9 in the league, while the Falcons dropped to 10-17, 7-13 in Conference Carolinas play.

Three other Saints scored in double-digits in the win.  Essence Greer (Washington, D.C.) contributed 11 points on 4-of-4 shooting from the field.  Stephanie Munoz (Peoria, Ill.) and Addie Graves (Columbia, S.C.) both had 10 points.  Tiffany Jones (Greer, S.C.) dished out seven assists.

For Pfeiffer, Devona Knight (Woodbridge, Va.) and Domonique China (Durham, N.C.) led the way with 11 points apiece.  Ashelle Athill (St. John’s Antigua) put up 10 points, 3 assists, and 2 steals for the Falcons.  Nicole Maready (Mocksville, N.C.) grabbed seven rebounds.

After three lead changes and four ties, Limestone took the lead on an Addie Graves' lay-up and would go on to lead by as many as 12 points in the first half.  Limestone shot an amazing 75% from the floor in the first half to the Falcons 33%.  Limestone shot 42.9% from beyond the arc as the Falcons only shot 7.14%.  The Falcon defense forced 13 Saint turnovers, but it wasn’t enough as the Saints headed into the half with a 41-29 lead.

The Saints scored the first basket of the second half on a 3-pointer by Munoz,  the Saints continued to push ahead, and after three back-to-back 3-pointers by Robinson, the Saints found themselves up by 26 points with just 9:34 left.  The Falcons turned up the defensive pressure to cut the Saints' lead to 18 with 3:13 left, but the Saints would answer with another 9-5 run to take the win.

The Saints will be in action again on Monday, in the first round of the Conference Carolinas tournament.  Brackets will be determined following conference games on Saturday.
