BARTON POUNDS SAINTS IN WOMEN’S BASKETBALL ACTION |
WILSON, N.C.—The Barton College women’s basketball team handed Limestone College a 72-42 loss on Saturday night. The Lady Saints regular season ends with an 8-12 CVAC record (9-18 overall) while Barton stands at 16-4 in the CVAC (20-6 overall) heading into the conference tournament next week. Blanca Gonzalez (Chicago, Ill.) and Lauren Mitchell (Saluda, S.C.) were the only Lady Saints to score in double figures, with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Mitchell and Monica Adams (Kings Mountain, N.C.) each had seven rebounds. Adams had two blocks and two steals while Gonzalez had four assists. Barton had three players in double figures, as Veronica Johnson, Kim Butts, and Jo Denevan each had 12 points. Denevan had a double-double for the night with 14 boards. Candice Britton had a game high six assists. Barton roared out to a 40-15 lead after the first period, but Limestone fought back in the second half as the Lady Saints were outscored only by five points (32-27). The Lady Bulldogs shot 37.5% (24-64) from the field during game, as Limestone was 18.5% form the field (10-54). Barton converted 37 points from 32 LC turnovers compared to the Lady Saints nine points from 20 BC turnovers. Barton had 24 points in the paint to Limestone’s 6, and scored 11 second chance points while the Lady Saints only managed four. However, the visitors scored 15 points from three’s while the hosts only made two three-pointers during the game. The Lady Saints will host the first round of the Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference tournament on Monday night at the Timken Center in Gaffney, S.C., at 7 p.m. |
