GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Lady Saints basketball team defeated St. Andrews 78-43, Saturday night at the Timken Center. Essence Greer (Washington, D.C.) led all scorers with 14 points. Jessy Perkins (Goldsboro, N.C.) led St. Andrews with 11 points. Limestone advanced to 14-12 overall, 9-7 in Conference Carolina action. St. Andrews dropped to 5-19 on the season, 4-13 in league play. For Limestone Ariel Lyons (Brandon, Fla.) added 13 points and 6 assists. Tiffany Jones (Greer, S.C.) and Lindsay Kyle (Springfield, Va.) added 10 and 9 points respectively. Addie Graves (Columbia, S.C.) led the Saints on the boards with 7. Erika Thompson (Kalamazoo, Mich.), Desiree Jones (Tulsa, Okla.) and Kristen Zipken (Canton, Ga.) all added 7 points a piece for St. Andrews. April Johnson (McColl, S.C.) led the Knights on the boards with 10 rebounds and picked up 5 blocked shots for the defense. Perkins and Jones added 7 rebounds. The Lady Saints jumped out to it’s best start this season, holding the Lady Knights scoreless over 10 minutes into the first half. Limestone was up 23-0 until St. Andrews’ Perkins came out with an offensive rebound and a 3-point play to put her Knights on the board, 23-3. Perkins went on to score 7 of the Knights 13 first half points, while Limestone’s Lyons and Greer led the Saints with 11 and 10 in the first. The Saints headed into the locker room up 45-13. The second half was a different ball game, as the Lady Saints only outscored St. Andrews, 33-30. The Saints shot 41.5 % from the field and 78.3% from the free-throw line. St. Andrews shot 27.1% from the field and 31.6% from the free-throw line. After the game, Limestone honored it’s 7 seniors for their contributions to the Lady Saints basketball program. Limestone will travel to Banner Elk, N.C., on Wednesday, February 20 to take on Lees-McRae at 5:30. St. Andrews will travel to Hartsville, S.C., on Thursday, February 21 to take on Coker at 5:30.
