GAFFNEY, S.C. — The Limestone women's basketball team defeated the Flying Fleet of Erskine College on Wednesday night, 75-40. All twelve members of Limestone’s roster scored, with Tierney Burdett (Peoria, Ill.) leading all scorers with 16 points, 14 in the first half. Burdett shot 67% from beyond the arc. For the Flying Fleet, Mary Ann Langford (LaGrange, Ga.) led the team with 12 points, shooting 50% from the floor.
Addie Graves (Columbia, S.C.) added 10 points and 4 rebounds and Essence Greer (Washington, D.C.) was just one field goal shy of a double-double, contributing 10 rebounds and 8 points. Ariel Lyons (Brandon, Fla.) added 8 points and 10 assists.
For the Flying Fleet, Audrey Timmerman (Aiken, S.C) added 11 points, 2 assists and 2 steals. Timmerman shot 57% from the field. Langford also led the Fleet on the boards with 7.
In the first half, Erskine pushed ahead of the Lady Saints 14-9 halfway through the first half. Burdett hit a 3-pointer and 2 field-goals to tie the game at 16-16. Timmerman answered with a 3-pointer to take back the lead for Erskine, but Limestone reacted quickly with a 3-pointer by Tiffany Jones (Greer, S.C.) to tie again at 19-19. Burdett created a spark for Limestone, leading them in a 19-9 run, heading into the locker room at the half up 35-24. Burdett had 14 points in the first half as the Saints shot an amazing 66.7% from beyond the arc.
The Saints scored the first basket of the second half and never looked back until the damage was done. Limestone shot 50% from the field on the night and 37.5% from beyond the arc. Erskine was 31.4% from the field and 50% from 3-point range.
Limestone will host St. Andrews on Saturday, February 16 at 5:30. Erskine will also be at home on Saturday, hosting Mount Olive at 2:00.
