GAFFNEY, S.C. — The Limestone women's basketball suffered a 66-62 loss to Barton College on Saturday night. Esty Flores (Virginia Beach, Va.) and Kim Butts (Virginia Beach, Va.) led the Lady Bulldogs with 14 points a piece. For Limestone, Tierney Burdett (Peoria, Ill.) led all scorers with 15 points. The Saints drop back to .500 with the loss, 12-12 overall, 7-7 in league play. Barton climbs to 13-7 on the season, 11-4 in the conference.
Essence Greer (Washington, D.C.) had 12 points, 5 rebounds and shot 100% (10-10) from the free-throw line for the Saints. Burdett also led the Saints on the boards with 8. Ariel Lyons (Brandon, Fla.) added 7 points, 3 assists and 3 steals.
For Barton, Sara Fleming (Stanley, N.C.) and Kendra Thomas (Virginia Beach, Va.) both added 8 points. Thomas and Butts led the team in rebounding with 6 a piece. Candice Britton (Baltimore, Md.) added 7 points, 4 assists, 1 block and 1 steal. Flores also added 5 rebounds.
Barton jumped out to at 24 point lead to start the game, but Limestone fought back and only trailed by 5 points (30-25) at the half.
The Bulldogs led the entire half, but with just two minutes left, Limestone began to close the gap. With Barton up 63-60 at 1:44, Greer sunk two free-throws to put the Saints within 1 point (62-63). Greer then picked up a personal foul, sending Flores to the line. Flores missed both attempts with just 34 second left to give Limestone another opportunity. Jones was able to get a shot off, only to be blocked by Barton’s Britton. Limestone was forced to foul again, sending Thomas to the line. Thomas sunk both shots to put the Bulldogs up 65-62. Butts then hit another free-throw to ensure the 66-62 Barton victory.
Limestone shot 31.3% from the field on the night and 35.7% from beyond the arc. The Bulldogs shot 37.1% from the field and only 18.2% from the 3-point line.
Limestone will host Erskine on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. Barton will host Belmont Abbey next Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
