BELMONT, N.C. — The Limestone women's basketball team earned
their sixth Conference Carolinas’ win on Saturday afternoon in
a 74-67 win over the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey. Senior Lindsey Kyle
(Springfield, Va.) led the Saints with 19 points and 7 rebounds. Limestone
improves to 11-9 this season and 6-4 in Conference Carolinas’
play, while Belmont Abbey dropped to 12-5 overall and 8-3 in league
play.
Monica Adams (Kings Mountain, N.C.) recorded her third double-double
of the season with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Ariel Lyons (Brandon,
Fla.) added 10 points, 4 assists and 3 steals. Tiffany Jones (Greer,
S.C.) added 8 points and Addie Graves (Columbia, S.C.) contributed 7
points and 7 rebounds.
For the Crusaders, Marie Marquez (Greenville, S.C.) led all scorers
with 25 points. Asha Hardaway (Greensboro, N.C.) chipped in 14 points
and 8 rebounds.
In the first half, the Crusaders scored first with a made free-throw.
Limestone answered on a lay-up by Adams. The Crusaders returned the
favor to go up 3-2 but Adams scored again on her end, with the lay-up
as Limestone took the lead at 4-3 and would not trail again. The Saints
went on a 24-12 run for their highest lead of the half to go up 13 points
at 28-15. The Crusaders retaliated with a 12-3 push going into halftime
but the Saints maintained the lead up 31-27 at the half.
The Saints scored the first basket of the second half and would lead
by as many as 17 points with just 6:35 remaining. The Crusaders made
one last push but would only get as close as five points with just 19
seconds left, as the Saints prevailed taking the win at 74-67.
Limestone shot 48.9% (23-47) from the field on the night and an amazing
53.8% (7-13) from beyond the arc. The Crusaders shot 39.3% (22-56) from
the field. Neither team was spectacular from the free-throw line as
Limestone shot 58.3% (21-36) and Belmont Abbey shot 67.9% (19-28).
Limestone will host Queens University on Monday at 5:30 pm.
