LIMESTONE EDGED BY LEES-MCRAE IN CONFERENCE FINAL |
| ANDERSON, S.C. -- Lees McRae defeated Limestone, 30-21, 30-22, 25-30, 24-30, 15-10 to capture its 10th straight Conference Carolinas Tournament championship Saturday afternoon at the Abney Center. The Bobcats, 26-11 overall, seemed to have control of the match after they won the first two games, but the Lady Saints battled back to force a fifth game. “After the first two games I didn’t believe Limestone would push us as hard as they pushed, but they did and deserve a tremendous amount of credit for their performance,” said Lees-McRae head coach Jamie Petrik. But Lees-McRae took control of fifth game with two three-point runs. With the game tied at 5, the Bobcats scored three straight points. They also used another three-point run to close out the match. “With six freshman and four out of five new passers we showed tremendous confidence in tight situations,” said Petrik. Daviana Metti, the tournament MVP, recorded 27 kills and 18 digs to lead the Bobcats’ attack. Caty Honey added 19 kills and Kell Bogdan had 23 digs for Lees-McRae. Lees-McRae setter Lauren Dickover dished out 64 assists and had 22 digs. Limestone, 20-16 overall, was led by Melissa Thomas, who had 19 kills, 18 digs and nine total blocks. Ashley Hubbard contributed 12 kills and 6 blocks for the Saints. Chelsea Anthony picked up 22 digs and Laura Kerrsion handed out 38 assists for Limestone. Joining Metti on the all-tournament team were Bodgan, Honey, Thomas, Hubbard, Margaret Madison of Coker, and Lindsay Doggett of Anderson. |
