GAFFNEY, SC – The Saints volleyball team slid into first place
in the Conference Carolinas today with a 3-0 win over visiting Mount
Olive College. The win broke a three way tie as Limestone, Mount Olive
and Lees McRae were all at 8-2 in conference play entering today’s
match. Limestone advances to 11-12 overall, 9-2 in the conference. The
Trojans drop to 12-10, 8-3.
Games one and two were both close but Limestone overcame and won 30-28
in both. The Saints then went on to take game three by storm with a
30-23 finish. Melissa Thomas (Easley, SC) led all hitters with 19 kills
and Sam Flannery (Acworth, GA) added 11 for the offense. Laura Kerrison
(Charleston, SC) paced the offense with 41 assists. Four Saints picked
up double-digit digs with Chelsea Anthony (Pickens, SC) on top for 16.
Courtney Taotoai (Norwalk, CA) was a close second with 15; Kerrison
added 14 recording a double-double and Ashley Blackwelder (Fuquay-Varina,
NC) picked up 10 in the win. Lynn Milam (Summerville, SC) served 4 aces.
For the Mount Olive, Alicia Mote (Miami, FL) and Sam Mitchell (Boyd,
WI) led the offense with 15 and 13 kills respectively while Joanie Werling
(Purceville, VA) and Marian Cordero (Orlando, FL) split the setting
duties and added 19 and 15 assists. Mallory Peavler (Loda, IL) led the
defense with 17 digs and Cordero added 10 for the Trojans.
Limestone will return to action on Wednesday, traveling to Anderson,
SC to take on the Trojans of Anderson University. Match time is slated
for 6:30 pm
