LIMESTONE VOLLEYBALL CONTINUES 2006 HOME WIN STREAK WITH A 3-1 WIN OVER BELMONT ABBEY TONIGHT

GAFFNEY, SC--The Limestone College volleyball team snapped an 8 match loosing streak tonight in Conference Carolina opener with Belmont Abby. The win continues a 15 match home win streak from the 2006 season with the count at 16 after tonight’s win. The Saints defeated Belmont Abbey 31-29, 30-21, 29-31 and 30-27, advancing to 2-8 on the season, 1-0 in Conference Carolina play. Belmont Abbey dropped to 1-6 overall, 0-1 in the conference.


Melissa Thomas led the Saints offensively with 19 kills on 38 total attacks and only 3 errors. Sam Flannery added 13 kills and setters Laura Kerrison and Lynn Milam added 28 and 21 assists. Defensively Courtney Taotoai picked up 25 digs while Chelsea Anthony and Miliam added 21 and 11. Ashley Hubbard controlled the net with 5 block assists.

For the Crusaders, Leanne Cassandra paced the offense with 10 kills, Jessica Bennett added 9. Monica Halligan and Allison Smith both had 11 digs for the defense and Smith added 38 assists.

Head coach Tim Loesch recognized the defensive effort of Taotoai and Anthony and felt that Milam and Kerrison did an excellent job running the offense tonight. “I loved that everybody contributed in our much needed win today,” said Coach Loesch. Coach Loesch also commented on the play of Thomas and Flannery stating that they both did a great job attacking for us and our reserves all contributed for a team win which helped us get off to a great start in conference play

The Saints will take the court again on Saturday hosting Anderson University at 11:00 am and Shaw University at 3:00 PM for Family Day.
