SAINTS VOLLEYBALL ADD TWO FOR 2008 SEASON

GAFFNEY, S.C. — Limestone College Head Volleyball Coach Tim Loesch has announced that outside hitter Nina Milovanovic (Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada) and middle hitter Marla Messer (Chesnee, S.C.) will play for the Lady Saints in the upcoming 2008 season. Messer, a native of Chesnee, S.C., comes to Limestone from Newberry College where she spent her freshman and sophomore seasons. Milovanovic , a native of Belgrade, Serbia, will join the Lady Saints from Burnaby Secondary School in Canada.

Messer played at Chesnee High School, where she was a four year starter for the Eagles.  She was captain her junior and senior year and was named the team’s Most Valuable Player.  Messer was named All-Region and Academic All-Region team during her junior and senior campaigns.  At Newberry, Messer recorded 33 kills, 26 assists and 57 digs as a freshman.  Messer was a redshirt during the 2007 season and served as the Class President.  She is currently a member of the Limestone College Honors Program and is majoring in psychology.  She is the daughter of Reggie and Sheri Frye.

"Marla is a terrific athlete with a lot of quality volleyball experience,” commented Coach Loesch.  “Her speed, strength, and vertical will allow her to be a dominant force at the net.  She also has the skills to contribute in other areas with her consistency in serving, passing, and defense.  I'm excited to have her on the team."

Milovanovic played for Burnaby North Secondary.  Milovanovic was a four-year starter at Burnaby North, team captain, and Most Valuable Player.   In 2005 and 2006, Milovanovic was named All-Province and was selected to play on the Provincial team, which consists of the top twelve players from each province.  She led her team to a third place finish in the Provincials in 2006.  Milovanovic also brings a strong academic background to Limestone.  She was an honor roll student throughout high school and was in the French immersion. Milovanovic speaks four languages and is the recipient of the Robert Campbell merit scholarship for academic excellence, as well as a member of the Limestone Honors Program.  She plans to major in business at the College.  Milovanovic is the daughter of Dragan and Andrijana Milovanovic .

"Nina is a very talented player, equally capable on offense and defense,” said Loesch.  “Her skills at passing, digging, and attacking should allow her to contribute immediately to the team once she learns our system of play.  She has the potential to become one of the top players in Conference Carolinas with continued hard work. "I look forward to coaching her."
