LIMESTONE TENNIS TEAMS PICK UP WINS OVER LINCOLN MEMORIAL

GAFFNEY, S.C.—The Limestone College tennis teams picked up wins over Lincoln Memorial on Monday afternoon at the Emmie Evans Rector Tennis Center. The Lady Saints won 6-3 as the men defeated the Railsplitters 7-2.

Limestone’s women climb to 9-6 overall as the Saints improve to 7-8.

The Lincoln Memorial women (4-5) got wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles flights, and at No. 1 doubles. Melanie Kragl (Stuttgart, Germany) defeated Jennifer Pardon at No. 3 (6-3, 6-1). Lee Cribb (Spartanburg, S.C.) got a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 3, while Jessie Griffin (Atlanta, Ga.) won at No. 5 and Nicole Piazza (Hilton Head, S.C.) defeated her opponent at No. 6.

The Lady Saints’ No. 2 doubles team of Kragl and Cribb beat their competition 8-1, and Piazza and Griffin got an 8-1 win at No. 3. Alexandra Gade (Copenhagen, Denmark) and Jennifer Snaider (Asuncion, Paraguay) lost a tough match, 8-5 at the top doubles flight.

On the men’s side, Lincoln Memorial (8-7 overall) forfeited the No. 3 doubles and No. 4 and 5 singles matches. Christian Munn (Sao Paulo, Brazil) battled through three sets but lost to Lukas Burkon (6-4, 4-6, 10-4). Phillippe Hogan (Montreal, Quebec, Canada) got a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2. Peter Elsborg (Copenhagen, Denmark) also won in two sets as he beat Matt Estep (6-0, 6-0). Christian Warnholtz (Mexico City, Mexico) got the win at No. 4 when his opponent was forced to retire.

The Railsplitters Lukas Burkon and Guilherme Alves defeated Limestone’s top doubles team of Munn and Elsborg 8-6. Warnholtz and Jafet Banuelos (Mexico City, Mexico) had an 8-0 win at the No. 2 doubles slot.

Limestone travels to Greeneville, Tenn., to face Tusculum tomorrow at 4 p.m. at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
