GAFFNEY, S.C.—The Limestone College women’s and men’s soccer team both earned the #4 seed and home field advantage in the opening round of the Conference Carolinas tournaments this week. The Saint men host Belmont Abbey on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Saints Field, while the Lady Saints host Mount Olive on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
The semifinals and finals of the Conference Carolinas men’s and women’s soccer tournaments are hosted by Mount Olive College in Mount Olive, N.C., on November 2 and 4.
Limestone’s men’s team looks to repeat as tournament champions this year after winning their first conference tournament championship in program history in 2006. The Saints finished tied for third with Pfeiffer in the 2007 conference regular season standings with 19 points from a 6-3-1 league record (10-5-1 overall). The Saints were only one point out of finishing second. The team defeated #5 Belmont Abbey 2-1 on September 22, in Belmont, N.C. If the Saints beat the Crusaders again, they will advance to play the winner of the #1 Lees-McRae/#8 Erskine game on Friday, November 2 in the tournament semifinals at 7:30 p.m.
This season, the Lady Saints posted a winning conference record for the third consecutive year with a 5-2-4 league record (6-8-4 overall). The team also had their highest conference regular season finish in program history as the team tied for fourth with 19 points. Limestone and #5 Mount Olive battled to a 2-2 draw last Saturday at Saints Field. The winner of Wednesday’s match advances to the tournament semifinals to face the winner of the #1 Belmont Abbey/#8 Anderson match at 5 p.m. on November 2.
