YATES RETURNS TO LIMESTONE AS ASSISTANT COACH

GAFFNEY, S.C.—  Limestone College Head Softball Coach Jimmy Martin has announced that Amy Yates has joined the staff as assistant softball coach. Yates, who was the shortstop for the Lady Saints from 2003-2006, will assist Martin in all aspects of the program.

“I’m very excited to have the opportunity to come back to my alma mater and coach,” said Yates. “I originally came here as a player to try to make a difference in this program and help the team to a conference championship. Since that’s a goal I wasn’t able to achieve as a player, I’m looking forward to working hard and accomplishing it now as a coach. I was very fortunate right out of college to get a good coaching job at Newberry, and I’m confident what I was able to learn there will benefit me and carry over here at Limestone.”

Yates spent the 2006-07 academic year as an assistant coach for Newberry College, where she helped the squad to their first winning season I several years. The Lady Indians also tied the school record for wins in a season with 34.

During her four-year career at Limestone, Yates earned All-Conference honors four times and was named to the conference’s All-Tournament team. She posted a career batting average of .373 and is included in several Limestone records. She holds the Lady Saints career record with 56 doubles.
