| LADY SAINTS SOFTBALL SWEEPS MONTREAT |
GAFFNEY, S.C.-- The Limestone College softball team swept Montreat College (NAIA) on Saturday afternoon at Lady Saints Field. The Lady Saints won game 1 10-2 in six innings and picked up an 8-0 shutout in five innings in the second contest.
Limestone improves to 23-26 overall as the Cavaliers fall to 11-24.
The Lady Saints' shortstop Christina Woolgar (Orangevale, Calif.) scored in the first inning for a 1-0 lead on a single by first baseman Candice Evans (Lexington, S.C.) Woolgar hit a three-run double in the seecond as left fielder Chelsea Anthony (Pickens, S.C.), catcher Jordan Goodman (Missauga, Ontario, Canada), and right fielder Lindsey Gladden (York, S.C.) Woolgar scored on a single by Keisha Thompson (Union, S.C.), and Thompson scored on a double by designated player Jessica Brown (Inman, S.C.) to end the inning with a 6-0 lead.
Montreat scored in the fourth, but Limestone took the 7-1 lead in the bottom of the inning as Anthony walked with the bases loaded.
The Cavaliers put their final run of the game up in the sixth.
The Lady Saints got the 10-2 win in the sixth as Anthony scored on Gladden's base hit. Gladden reached home on a base hit by Woolgar.
Lisa DeMarr (Alpharetta, Ga.) picked up the win and had five strikeouts. Kayla Duvall was tagged with the loss.
Thompson's scored to put the Lady Saints on the board in the first when she scored on an error by the firstbaseman after Evans got on first base. Third baseman Lauren Robertson (Cincinatti, Ohio) homered in the second to lead off the inning. Woolgar scored on Brown's hit to deep right field.
Limestone's Robertson scored on Anthony's double in the fourth. Evans batted in Thompson in the fifth. Robertson got to second on an error by the second baseman as Brown and Evans reached home. Owen won the game for the Lady Saints as she scored the eighth run on a wild pitch.
Thompson had two stolen bases in the second contest. Jennifer Casement (Peterborough, Onatario, Canada) got the win as she struck out six batters and scattered four hits.
Limestone travels to play Mars Hill on Monday at 2 p.m. in Mars Hill, N.C.
