LIMESTONE SOFTBALL SPLITS DOUBLE-HEADER WITH BARTON

GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Limestone College softball team split with Barton College on Saturday at the Lady Saints Field. Barton had the advantage in game one winning 2-1, but Limestone rebounded in game two picking up the win 8-0 in five innings. The Saints now stand at 21-31 overall, 9-11 in the league. Barton is 14-23, 6-10 in the conference.

In game one, Limestone’s Christina Woolgar (Orangeville, Ca.) drove in the Saint’s first run on a shot down the third base line in the bottom of the first. Barton answered in the top of the second on an RBI double by Rebecca DiPietro. DiPietro singled to bring in another run in the top of the fourth.

DeMar took the loss from the mound falling to 5-10 on the season. DeMarr allowed four hits and struck out five batters, walking none. Kaitlyn Moomau (Huntingtown, Md.) from Barton got the win, allowing 5 hits and striking out 2 batters.

In game two, Limestone scored first on an RBI single bunt by Jessica Brown (Inman, S.C.) to score Felicia Fritz (Muncie, Ind.). Hannah Mills (Richmond, Va.) singled to score Brittany Owen (Pasadena, Md.). Samantha Weaver (Emmitsburg, Md.) drove in two more on a shot over the third baseman for a single to put the Saints up 4-0. Emily Wallace scored for Limestone in the fourth, crossing home on a passed ball. The Saints scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth, as Mills and Lindsey Gladden (York, S.C.) scored on an error by Barton’s pitcher. Weaver scored on a passed ball for the win.

Emily Wallace (Winchester, Ky.) got the win improving to 13-13 on the season. Barton’s Claire Severt (Lexington, N.C.) took the loss.

The Saints will host Lenoir-Rhyne on Tuesday in non-conference action at 2:00 p.m. Barton will travel to Charlotte, N.C., tomorrow for a conference double-header with Queens University at 1:00 p.m.
