LIMESTONE SOFTBALL FALLS TO MOUNT OLIVE

 

 

GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Limestone College softball team dropped a pair to Mount Olive College, 10-7 and 8-0, at the Lady Saints Field on Friday afternoon. The Saints fell to 20-30 overall, 8-10 in the league. Mount Olive improved to 25-18, 11-7 in the conference.

In game one, MOC scored in the first on a Jenny Jackson (Fremont, N.C.) RBI single. For Limestone, Brittany Owen (Pasadena, Md.) scored the first run for the Saints, crossing the plate on an error by MOC’s shortstop. Jordan Goodman (Mississauga, Ontario) singled to bring in the other run, putting Limestone up 2-1 after one inning. MOC put up three more in the top of the third with RBI’s singles from Kat Cahoon (Columbia, N.C.) and Jackson. Shortstop Kelly Minshew (Stantonsburg, N.C.) scored on an error by Limestone’s catcher and MOC took the lead 4-2. Limestone added another run in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by Jessica Brown (Inman, S.C.). MOC went on a hitting spree to start the fourth, putting up five more runs on RBI singles by Courtney Wallace (Palm Harbor, Fla.), Morgan Whaley (Beulaville, N.C.) and Minshew. Bailey Harrell (Kinston, N.C.) doubled two add two more RBI’s to put her Trojans up 9-2. MOC made it 10-2 in the top of the fifth on an RBI double by Minshew. Limestone attempted a come back scoring four runs in the bottom of the sixth on RBI singles by Chelsea Anthony (Pickens, S.C.) and Keisha Thompson (Union, S.C.). Lauren Robertson doubled to bring in two more. Both teams were held scoreless in the seventh as MOC went on to win 10-7.

Anna Turvin (Winter Haven, Fla.) was credited with the win. Emily Wallace fell to 12-13 with the loss.

MOC scored five runs out of the gate in game two, with Harrell driving in two runs on a double. Wallace, Karen Thornton (Mount Olive, N.C.) and Aubry Reinhard (Goldsboro, N.C.) added three RBI’s a piece, each picking up a single. MOC added three more in the top of the fourth and held the Saints through the bottom of the fifth for the 8-0 win.

Turvin picked up the win from the mound, allowing seven hits and striking out three batters. Lisa DeMarr (Alpharetta, Ga.) took the loss, falling to the 5-9 on the season.

The Saints will host Barton College tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. The Saints will also celebrate Senior Day. The Trojans will travel to Charlotte, N.C., for a conference double-header with Queens tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.
