LIMESTONE SOFTBALL DROPS TWO ON THE ROAD

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Limestone College softball team dropped a pair of conference wins to Coker College on Tuesday afternoon. Coker won game one with ease, defeating Limestone 9-0 in five innings, but the Lady Saints picked up the pace in game two, only falling 2-0. The Lady Cobras improve to 30-10 overall, and 15-1 in the conference, while Limestone falls to 19-27 overall, and 7-7 in the conference.

In game one, Coker exploded onto the board in the second inning, scoring eight runs on six hits.

Coker pitchers, Shelly Catlett (Orangeburg, SC) and Sydney Greenwalt (Edwardsville, IL), combined for a three hit shut out of the Saints. Catlett (21-5) earned the win, going three innings with three strike outs.

Lauren Robertson (Cincinnati, OH) took the loss for the Saints, allowing eight runs on six hits in two innings on the mound and falling to 3-6 on the season.

Kimberly Atkinson (McBee, S.C.) led the offense for Coker, going 1-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored, while Eunice Nettles (Pelion, S.C.) was 1-for-3 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored.

For Limestone, Felicia Fritz (Muncie, Ind.), Brittany Owens (Pasadena, Md.) and Christina Woolgar (Orangeville, Ca.) each contributed a hit.

Much like the first game, Coker got on the board in the second inning, scoring two runs.

Catlett (22-5) picked up another win from the mound, as she was able to give up just one Saint hit over seven innings with seven strike outs.

Emily Wallace (Winchester, Ky.) took the loss, going six strong innings, allowing two runs on seven hits, with a strike out. Wallace fell to 11-12 on the season.

Nettles was the only Lady Cobra with multiple hits in the game, going 2-for-3, while Klees picked up the two RBIs of the game, finishing 1-for-3 on the day with a double.

Fritz had the Saints only hit in the second game, a single through the left side of the infield in the top of the seventh inning, breaking Catlett’s no-hitter.

Limestone returns to action tomorrow, hosting Erskine College at 3:00 p.m.
