| NO. 16 LENOIR-RHYNE SWEEPS LADY SAINTS |
HICKORY, N.C.—The Limestone College softball team lost two non-conference games to No. 16 Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday. The Lady Bears took game won 11-3, and won the second contest 5-4. Limestone falls to 20-25 overall as Lenoir-Rhyne climbs to 38-7.
Lisa DeMarr (Alpharetta, Ga.) took the loss in game 1 after pitching the first inning. Jennifer Casement (Peterborough, Ontario, Canada) also pitched for the Lady Saints. Casey Hanes got the win as she struck out five batters and gave up five hits. Limestone gave up 12 hits during the contest.
The Bears scored a run in the bottom of the first, and then added seven more in the second.
Limestone got three runs in the third. Second baseman Lindsey Gladden (York, S.C.) scored on a wild pitch. First baseman Candice Evans (Lexington, S.C.) hit a double to score catcher Jessica Brown (Inman, S.C.) and shortstop Christina Woolgar (Orangevale, Calif.).
However, the Lady Bears added another run in the bottom of the inning for the 9-3 lead, and scored twice more in the fourth for the win.
Limestone started game 2 by scoring three times in the opening inning as Evans hit a three-run homer. Lenoir-Rhyne tied the score in the bottom of the inning. Limestone took a brief 4-3 lead in the fourth as Lauren Robertson (Cincinnati, Ohio) homered to lead off the inning. The Lady Bears tied the score again in the bottom of the inning, and scored once more in the sixth for the 5-4 win.
Evans took the loss in game 2, as Meredith O’Connor picked up here 19th win of the season.
The Lady Saints travel to Due West, S.C., on Wednesday to play CVAC-rival Erskine at 3 p.m.
