| LADY SAINTS SOFTBALL GETS A WIN AND A LOSS AT BARTON |
MOUNT OLIVE, N.C.-- The Limestone College Lady Saints and the Mount Olive Lady Trojans split a pair of run-rule games on Thursday at Nancy Chapman Cassell Field. Limestone took game 1 with an 8-0 win as Mount Olive got the 8-0 victory in game 2. The Lady Saints’ CVAC record stands at 8-6 (19-22 overall) as the Trojans climb to 11-3 in conference play (31-14 overall).
Jennifer Casement (Peterborough, Ontario, Canada) picked up the win for the Lady Saints in the first contest as she only gave up one hit in four innings. Lisa DeMarr (Alpharetta, Ga.) also saw action for Limestone. Shauna Cowdrey was tagged with the loss. The Trojans gave up nine hits during the first contest.
Limestone scored three runs in the third as first baseman Candice Evans (Lexington, S.C.) doubled to score catcher Jessica Brown (Inman, S.C.) and centerfielder Keisha Thompson (Union, S.C.) Third baseman Brittany Owen (Pasadena, Md.) doubled to left center field in the next at bat as Evans scored.
The Lady Saints sealed the run-rule win in the fourth as shortstop Christina Woolgar (Orangevale, Calif.) singled to score right fielder Courtney Guerrieri (Union, S.C.) and left fielder Lauren Robertson (Cincinnati, Ohio). Woolgar went on to score after an error by the Trojans’ catcher. Brown homered as Thompson also scored.
Limestone didn’t fare as well in the second contest as the squad gave up 10 hits while only recording three. Evans was tagged with the loss as she recorded six strikeouts. Jenny Jackson got the win for Mount Olive.
The Trojans scored four runs in the first inning and had a pair of runs in the fourth and fifth for the victory.
Limestone continues its road trip tomorrow at Barton with a doubleheader scheduled to start at 2 p.m. in Wilson, N.C.
