| EVANS’ HOME RUN LIFTS LADY SAINTS TO 3-2 WIN OVER GEORGIA COLLEGE & STATE UNIVERSITY; BOBCATS WIN GAME 1, 6-0 |
GAFFNEY, S.C.— Sophomore Candice Evans (Lexington, S.C.) lifted the Limestone College softball team to a 3-2 win over Georgia College & State University in the second game of a doubleheader on Monday afternoon as she hit a home run in the final inning of the contest for the victory. The Bobcats took the first game of the series 6-0. Limestone improves to 18-21 while GCSU slips to 27-13.
Georgia College & State got the game's first run in the second when Nikki Smith homered. Keidra Baitey hit a three-run homer to give the Bobcats a 4-0 lead in the third. Lindsey Swanson advanced home in the seventh on a wild pitch. Keidra Baitey singled in the next at bat to score Deidra Baitey as the Bobcats took game one 6-0.
Mandy Chandler got the win in game 1 after pitching the first four innings. She recorded five strikeouts as reliever Libby Smith struck out three batters. Limestone's Jennifer Casement (Peterborough, Onatario, Canada) was tagged with the loss as she struck out seven batters in five innings. Candice Evans (Lexington, S.C.) struck out three batters.
Limestone scored its first run in the third when one of the Lady Saints batter was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Brittany Owen (Pasadena, Md.) hit a fly ball deep to centerfield to score Christina Woolgar (Orangevale, Calif.) for the 2-0 lead at the end of the inning.
Keidra Baitey led off the fourth inning with a home run for GSCU, and nailed another one to tie the game at 2-2 in the sixth.
Evans won the game for the Saints in the seventh as she led off the inning with a home run for the 3-2 win.
Freshman pitcher Lisa DeMarr (Alpharetta, Ga.) pitched the complete game for the win as she only gave up six hits.
Limestone travels to play CVAC-rival Mount Olive on Thursday at 4 p.m. in Mount Olive, N.C., at 4 p.m.
