GREENEVILLE, Tenn.—The Lady Saints softball team split its doubleheader at Tusculum on Sunday afternoon. The Pioneers edged the Saints 1-0 in game 1, but Limestone handed the Pioneers an 8-2 loss in the second contest. Limestone stands at 17-20 overall after today’s results.
Candice Evans (Lexington, S.C.) took the loss in game one, as Megan DuBois pitched a complete game and only gave up two hits while recording six strikeouts.
The contest was scoreless until Tusculum came up with a run in the bottom of the seventh to get the victory.
Jennifer Casement (Peterborough, Ontario, Canada) got the win for the Lady Saints in game 2. She recorded four strikeouts while scattering seven hits.
Limestone scored a run in the first, but Tusculum tied it up in the bottom of the inning. The Lady Saints took a 4-1 lead with three runs in the third, and then increased their advantage with four more runs in the sixth. The Pioneers only managed one more run in the sixth.
Shortstop Christina Woolgar (Orangevale, Calif.) and Evans were both 3-for-4 for the Lady Saints. Centerfielder Courtney Guerrieri (Union, S.C.) and right fielder Jessica Brown (Inman, S.C.) were each 2-for-3. Woolgar, Brown and Evans recorded doubles. Evans led the team with four RBIs as left fielder Lauren Robertson (Cincinnati, Ohio) batted in three runs for Limestone.
Limestone hosts Georgia College & State University on Monday at 2 p.m. at Lady Saints Field in Gaffney.
