BELMONT, N.C. - The Limestone College softball team swept Belmont Abbey in a Conference Carolinas doubleheader on Thursday, 6-2 in the opener and 5-4 in game two. Limestone is now 17-21 overall and 6-4 in Conference Carolinas, while the Abbey slips to 7-26 overall and 1-9 in conference play. Limestone’s Lauren Robertson (Cincinnati, Ohio) led the Saints, going 3-for-5 on the day with 4 runs, a double, a triple and 2 RBIs. Chelsea Anthony (Pickens, S.C.) was 4-for-4 with 4 RBIs, 2 runs, a double, and a home run for the Saints.

In game one, the Abbey scored first, putting up two runs in the bottom of the third. Limestone cut the lead in half with a run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Brittany Owen (Pasadena, Md.) that scored Robertson. Limestone added five more runs in the sixth to open up a 6-2 lead to provide the final score.

Emily Wallace (Winchester, Ky.) earned the win after allowing two runs on five hits in a complete game effort. Carrie Markham (Phoenix, Ariz.) took the loss after allowing five runs, four of those earned, on nine hits in five and two-thirds innings pitched.

In game two, Limestone grabbed an early 2-0 lead after scoring lone runs in the first and second, but the Abbey grabbed its first lead of the day in the bottom of the third on a Tara Ruebel (Winston-Salem, N.C.) three-run homer to give the Crusaders a 3-2 lead. Limestone matched the Abbey's effort in the top of the fourth to reclaim the lead at 5-3, and the Crusaders trimmed the advantage to one at 5-4. Both teams went down in order in the sixth, and the Abbey held the Saints scoreless in the seventh to keep the margin at 5-4.

Robertson earned the win after allowing four runs on nine hits in five innings. Lisa DeMarr (Alpharetta, Ga.) earned the save after working two scoreless innings and yielding a pair of hits. Bennett took the loss after giving up five runs on six hits in seven innings.

Limestone will travel to Laurinburg, N.C., tomorrow for a Conference Carolinas doubleheader with St. Andrews at 2:00 p.m.
