| LADY SAINTS SOFTBALL DROPS 2 TO CARSON-NEWMAN |
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.— The Limestone College softball team lost two close games to Carson-Newman on Sunday afternoon. Limestone was edged 1-0 in the first game and 3-2 in the second. The Lady Saints record stands at 13-15 overall as the Eagles improve to 21-5. The Lady Saints only gave up five hits in the first game, but that was enough for Carson-Newman to score the lone run of the contest in the first inning. Lady Saint pitcher Candice Evans (Lexington, S.C.) had six strikeouts in the loss. First baseman Samantha Weaver (Emmittsburg, Md.) led Limestone with two hits in her three appearances at bat. Stephanie Templeton pitched the complete game as she only allowed three hits and struck out nine Limestone batters. Limestone scored a run in the first to begin game two. Second baseman Christina Woolgar (Orangevale, Calif.) singled to score third baseman Brittany Owen (Pasadena, Md.) The Lady Saints’ second run was in the top of the seventh. Center fielder Keisha Thompson (Union, S.C.) batted in shortstop Lauren Robertson (Cincinnati, Ohio). Thompson and left fielder Lindsey Gladden (York, S.C.) each had a stolen base. The Eagles had a run in the sixth and two in the bottom of the seventh for the win. Pitcher Jennifer Casement (Peterborough, Ontario, Canada) had 12 strikeouts and only gave up six hits as she was tagged with the loss. Armstrong got the win for the Eagles after giving up nine hits and striking out three Lady Saints. The Lady Saints continue their Tennessee road trip as Limestone plays Lincoln Memorial on Tuesday in Harrogate, Tenn. The first pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 2 p.m.
