LADY SAINTS SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH ANDERSON

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Limestone College women’s softball team split with Anderson University in Wednesday’s Conference Carolinas double-header. The Saints fell 2-1 in game one but edged Anderson 4-3 in the nightcap. The Saints now stand at 10-17 overall, 2-2 in conference play. Anderson is 11-9, 3-1 in league play.

Both teams hit the field ready to play; Limestone had three hits in the top of the first, scoring on an RBI single by Jessica Brown (Inman, S.C.) driving in Christina Woolgar (Orangeville, Ca.). Anderson would answer, scoring on a Limestone error. Anderson scored again in the bottom of the third, on a home run by the left fielder, Elisa Sebastyan (Fort Mill, S.C.). Neither team would score again and Anderson got the win, 2-1.

Emily Wallace (Winchester, Ky.) took the loss from the mound, falling to 3-8 on the season. For Anderson, Casey Deer (Ulmer, S.C.) picked up the win.

In the nightcap, Limestone once again scored the first run in the top of the fifth on an RBI single by Woolgar to score Lindsey Gladden (York, S.C.). Anderson changed pitchers, replacing Samantha Moorhead (Anderson, S.C.) with Katie Van Gieson (Greenville, S.C.) in the top of the sixth. Limestone scored three runs on three hits and two Trojan errors to go up 4-0 heading into the bottom of the inning. Anderson scored three runs of their own to try and make a late run with a one run homer by Kayla Thrasher (Pendleton, S.C.) and a two run homer by Kasey King (Elberton, Ga.). Anderson would again change pitchers, replacing Van Gieson with Alex Waldroup (LaGrange, Ga.) in the top of the seventh. Limestone scored one more in the top of the seventh, as Brittany Owen (Pasadena, Md.) crossed the plate on a run down error by the third baseman. Anderson had a chance in the bottom of the seventh, with the bases loaded, and two outs, Lisa DeMarr (Alpharetta, GA) struck out the last batter to lead the Saints to a 5-3 victory.
DeMarr got the win, improving to 5-4 on the season. Moorhead was credited with the loss.

The Saints will host Lees-McRae tomorrow in Gaffney. The conference double-header is slated to start at 2:00 p.m.
