LIMESTONE SOFTBALL GOES 1-2 ON DAY ONE OF
CATAWBA INVITATIONAL |
|
SALISBURY, N.C.- Limestone softball went 1-2 on Saturday at the Catawba Invitational Tournament being held at Salisbury Community Park in Salisbury, NC. The Lady Saints claimed a 1-0 win over Indiana University of Pennsylvania to start the day off, but fell to East Stroudsburg and Wheeling Jesuit by a 3-1 count in the next two games of the day. The Lady Saints moved to 7-12 overall with the results of today’s contests. The Lady Saints defeated Indiana University of Pennsylvania 1-0 to start the day off in Salisbury. Lisa DeMarr (Alpharetta, GA) picked up the win by only giving up one hit while striking out 7 batters. Although the Lady Saints could only muster two hits on the day, Jordan Goodman (Mississauga, Ontario, Canada) made one of them count by breaking up a no hitter to lead off the sixth inning with a home-run. Goodman went 1-for-3 and Felicia Fritz (Muncie, Ind.) accounted for the only other hit for Limestone in the seventh inning. The Lady Saints could not find their offensive groove in the second game of the day and were defeated by East Stroudsburg, 3-1. Emily Wallace picked up the loss for Limestone by giving up 6 hits and three earned runs in the complete game effort. Limestone’s lone run came in the second inning when Christina Woolgar (Orangeville, Ca.) belted a solo home run to break a scoreless tie. Woolgar went 1-3 on the day with her homerun, while Brittany Owen (Pasadena, Md.) and Goodman each doubled. The lack of scoring caught up with the Lady Saints as East Stroudsburg was able to surpass them in the runs category to come out on top. Limestone made a late run in the third game of the day, but came up
empty as they dropped a 3-1 decision to Wheeling Jesuit. Woolgar drove
in the Lady Saint’s only run of the game in the 7th inning when
she smacked a double past Wheeling’s defense. Owen was able to
come around the bases to score for Limestone after she and Fritz both
singled to start the rally. Lauren Robertson (Cincinnati, OH) started
the game at pitcher, but lasted only three innings where she gave up
three hits and two earned runs to suffer the loss. DeMarr came in relief,
but could not find the offensive support to pick up the win.
