LIMESTONE SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH NEWBERRY

GAFFNEY, S.C.— The Limestone College softball team split its doubleheader with Newberry College on Wednesday afternoon. The Lady Saints won the first game, 6-3, but lost the second contest, 9-0. Limestone is now 2-8 for the year as Newberry improves to 9-9-1.

In the first game, pitcher Lisa DeMarr (Alpharetta, Ga.) got the win for the Lady Saints as Jennifer Casement (Peterborough, Ontario, Canada) earned the save. Christina Woolgar (Orangevale, Calif.) was 3-for-3 at bat, while Candice Evans (Lexington, S.C.) was 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Chelsea Anthony (Pickens, S.C.) hit her first homerun of the year as she was 1-for-3 at the plate.

Ginna Dean was 2-for-3 for Newberry, while Christina Kirby was also 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Limestone scored a run in the first, added four more in the second inning, and score its final run in the sixth. Newberry had three runs in the sixth.

 In the second game, Casement was tagged with the loss.

 Dean was 2-for-3 again for the Lady Indians, while Haley Watson was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Tiffany Pigage was 2-for-3, and Kirby had another RBI.

Keisha Thompson was 2-for-3 at bat for the Lady Saints in game 2.

The Lady Saints travel to Salisbury, N.C., to compete in the Catawba Tournament on Saturday and Sunday. Limestone will play Shephard and the University of Indianapolis on Saturday before taking on Kutztown and Fairmont on Sunday.
