GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Lady Saints Softball team split a doubleheader
with Chowan University Saturday, 0-2 and 7-0. The Saints improved to
4-10 on the season while Chowan dropped to 3-3 with the loss in game
two.
In game one, Chowan jumped out with a run in the first inning on a series
of wild pitches by Limestone’s Lauren Robertson (Cincinnati, Ohio).
Chowan would score again in the top of the sixth on an RBI double by
Tricia Gorman..
Robertson was credited with the loss and drops to 1-4 on the season.
Shellie Wimpie picked up the win, improving to
2-1 on the season.
Jordan Goodman (Mississauga, Ontario, Canada) was 2-for-3 for the Saints. Melissa
Woodrum was 2-for-3 for the Hawks and Gorman picked up an RBI.
In the second game, the Limestone bats came alive, starting it off in the
bottom of the second scoring four runs with a triple by Jessica Brown
(Inman, S.C.) and an RBI single by Goodman. Keisha Thompson (Union,
S.C.) finished out the scoring drive with a three-run homer. Limestone scored
again in the bottom of the third on an RBI double by Brown. Limestone
scored twice in the bottom of the fourth on a homer by Hannah Mills (Richmond,
Va).
For the Saints, Felicia Fritz (Muncie, Ind.) was 4-for-4, and Mills
was 1-for-3 with 2 RBIs and a home run. Thompson was 1-for-3
with 2 RBIs and a standing home run. Brown was 2-for-3 with a
triple.
Lisa DeMarr (Alpharetta, Ga.) picked up the win, striking out six batters.
DeMarr is now 2-2 with the win. Krystal Thomas was credited
with the loss and is now 0-2 on the season.
The Saints will be in action again on Tuesday, hosting Lander University
at 2:00 p.m.
