SOFTBALL DROPS DOUBLEHEADER TO CATAWBA |
SALISBURY, NC – Limestone dropped two games to Catawba College on Thursday, by scores of 0-2 and 3-4. Limestone fell to 3-9 overall while Catawba improved to 7-1 on the season. Catawba scored the only runs of the opening game in the fourth inning. Sarah VanBuskirk (Lutz, FL) reached to lead off the frame when her line drive to center was misplayed. Ryann Baker (Rockwell, NC) followed with a run-scoring double and Erin Witalison (Gold Hill, NC) doubled her home with one out. Cobb made the runs stand up as she tossed her second straight shutout to improve to 4-0. The freshman scattered eight hits with no walks and seven strikeouts. Jessie Whitesides (Yadkinville, NC) had the other Lady Indian hit of the opener with a first-inning single. Brittany Owen (Pasadena, MD) had three hits for the Saints, while Jordan Goodman (Mississaugua, Ontario, Canada) and Keisha Thompson (Union, SC) each had two hits. Limestone benefitted from three Catawba errors to grab a 2-0 lead after two innings of the nightcap. Goodman drove home the second run on a sacrifice fly. The Lady Indians picked up an unearned run of their own in the third on an RBI double by Geouge then took the lead in the fourth on a two-run homer by Allie Marshall (Pleasant Garden, NC). The Saints tied the game in the sixth as Heather Mills (Richmond, VA) singled home a run with one out. Limestone loaded the bases on a pair of walks after the single, but Cobb entered and got a pop up and come-backer to end the frame. Geouge then hit a 2-1 pitch to left-center to end the contest. Geouge collected three hits in the nightcap for Catawba and Cobb allowed just one hit with a pair of strikeouts in relief to grab her fifth win without a loss. Thompson had two more hits for Limestone. The Saints will host Chowan College on Saturday, at 1:00 p.m.
