| LIMESTONE SOFTBALL LOSES TWO AGAINST CATAWBA |
GAFFNEY, S.C.-- Limestone dropped its softball doubleheader to Catawba on Tuesday afternoon at Lady Saints Field. The Lady Saints lost their first game of the doubleheader, 3-1, and the second, 11-7. Limestone falls to 0-4 on the season as Catawba climbs to 11-3. The first game was scoreless until the fifth inning when Catawba's Kathryn Geouge hit a home run to put her team up 1-0. Sarah VanBuskirk singled in the sixth with a runner on third as Jacqueline White scored. Limestone's Christina Woolgar (Orangevale, Calif.) batted in Lindsay Gladden (York, S.C.) in the sixth to cut the score to 2-1. Candice Evans (Lexington, S.C.) was credited with the loss as Lindsay Ettinger took the win. In the day’s second game, Evans got the game off to a good start for the Lady Saints as she hit a homerun in the team's first at bat of the game. Jessica Brown (Inman, S.C.) followed Evans at the plate as she hit a homerun to build a 2-0 lead for the Lady Saints. Catawba pinch-hitter Kathleen Greenhalgh hit a double in the top of the third wo score two runs for Catawba. The Lady Indians would score two more runs before the third out, and went on to score four more runs in the fourth. Evans hit another home run to begin the fourth inning for Limestone. Short stop Lauren Robertson hit a sacrifice fly to score pinch runner Michelle Black (Spartanburg, S.C.). Gladden singled to score Chelsea Anthony (Picken, S.C.) Brittany Owen batted in two RBIs before the inning was over. The Lady Indians responded to Limestone’s rally by scoring its final three runs of the game in the sixth. Limestone didn’t score for the remainder of the game as Catawba came away with the 11-7 win. The Lady Saints host North Greenville on Thursday at 2 p.m. at Saints Field.
