MCEMERSON NAMED CONFERENCE CAROLINAS FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR AS 5 MORE SAINTS EARN ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C.—Limestone forward Michael McEmerson garnered Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year honors, as announced at the men’s soccer tournament banquet on Saturday at Mount Olive. Ali Benson (Hull, England), Tom Beattie (Goole, England), Sean Boyle (Galway, Ireland), Adam Ennis (Lanarkshire, Scotland), and Ryan Robinson (Snellville, Ga.) also earned All-Conference honors.

 

McEmerson was also named Second Team All-Conference. He was Limestone’s top scorer with eight goals, and had three assists for 19 points. He played in 16 games with 10 starts for the Saints in 2007. He scored the game-winning goals against Coker on October 13, Belmont Abbey on September 22, and USC-Aiken on September 5.

 

Forward Ali Benson, the 2006 conference Freshman of the Year, earned First Team honors. He started in all 15 of his appearances, scoring five goals and recording two assists for 12 points.

 

Tom Beattie, a midfielder, was also named First Team All-Conference. He started in 15 games as he scored five goals and dished out four assists for 14 points. He scored the golden goal in Limestone’s overtime win against Barton on September 15.

 

Defender Adam Ennis and Midfielder Sean Boyle garnered Second Team All-Conference Carolinas honors. Ennis saw action in 16 games with 15 starts and tallied one goal and one assist. He anchored a Saints defense that had a .95 GAA this year and recorded seven shutouts, the second most shutouts in the program’s history.

 

Boyle was the only player on Limestone’s squad to start all 17 games this season. He recorded three goals and an assist. He had the game-winning goal against Anderson on October 6.

 

Goalkeeper Ryan Robinson played in 16 games for Limestone with a .98 GAA and posted 54 saves for a .783 save percentage. He had shutouts against Newberry, Barton, Coker, and Erskine. He also helped Limestone to shutouts against USC-Aiken, UNC-Pembroke, and Mount Olive.
