CLAYTON STATE MEN’S SOCCER EDGES LIMESTONE WITH PENALTY KICK, 2-1

MORROW, Ga.— Limestone College and Clayton College and State University battled into double overtime, but the Lakers took advantage of a penalty kick to edge the Saints, 2-1. Limestone stands at 9-5-1 with the result as Clayton State improves to 12-3-1.

Limestone had a 1-0 lead entering halftime thanks to a goal by Liam Brown (North Lanarkshire, Scotland). The Lakers equalized in the second half.

Limestone was forced to play a man-down for much of the second half and the overtime periods as one of the Saints received a red card.

Clayton State scored the game-winner on a penalty kick in the second overtime period.

“I couldn’t be prouder of the boys,” said Limestone Head Coach Eric Alsop. “We had a wonderful performance. It’s a shame a penalty kick decided this caliber of game.

“Now we have to get focused for our game on Saturday against Mount Olive, and for conference tournament play,” Alsop pointed out.

Limestone hosts Mount Olive on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Saints Field in Gaffney, S.C.
