SAINTS SOCCER EDGES BARTON 1-0 IN DOUBLE OVERTIME

WILSON, N.C.— The Limestone College men’s soccer team grinded out a 1-0 overtime win against Conference Carolinas-foe Barton College on Saturday night. Limestone improves to 4-1-1 overall and 1-1-1 in the conference. The Bulldogs fall to 2-4-1 overall (0-1-1 conference).

Limestone had several scoring chances throughout the match but couldn’t find the back of the net. The game was scoreless until the first minute of the second overtime period when the Saints’ Michael McEmerson (Glasgow, Scotland) slipped the ball to Tom Beattie (Goole, England) for the golden goal.

“It was a tough game,” said Limestone Head Coach Eric Alsop. “I’m really proud of the team’s efforts. We had several missed opportunities but the boys kept pushing to get the win.”

Tonight’s victory was the third shutout win of the season for Limestone.

The Saints host Conference Carolinas-rival Lees-McRae on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Saints Field in Gaffney.
