NO. 7 LIMESTONE GETS 2-0 WIN OVER USC-AIKEN |
GAFFNEY, S.C.—The No. 7 Limestone College men’s soccer team improved to 3-0 on the season with a 2-0 victory against USC-Aiken on Wednesday afternoon at Saints Field. The Pacers fall to 0-3 with the loss. “Today’s game wasn’t pretty to play in,” commented Limestone Head Coach Eric Alsop. “I’m proud of the way the boys kept their composure and got the results that we needed today. USC-Aiken is a tough team and our guys responded well.” Limestone received nine yellow cards and one red over the course of the match. There were 32 fouls called during the game. Michael McEmerson (Glasgow, Scotland) scored both of Limestone’s goals. He put the Saints on the board in the 56th minute, and had another goal with 13 minutes left to play to give Limestone the 2-0 lead. Stuart Wright (Newcastle, England) assisted on the Saints’ second goal. Limestone held a narrow 7-6 advantage on shots, while the Pacers had four corner kicks to the Saints’ one. The Pacers’ goalkeeper Leonel Medina (Merida, Mexico) had one save for the match. Limestone starter Ryan Robinson had one save before coming off with an injury in the 20th minute. Kyle Schmaltz had three saves in the remaining 70 minutes to give the Saints their second straight shutout. Limestone opens Conference Carolinas play on Saturday as the team hosts Pfeiffer at 4 p.m. at Saints Field in Gaffney. |
