NO. 20 LIMESTONE MEN’S SOCCER OPENS SEASON WITH 6-2 WIN OVER REINHARDT

WALESKA, Ga.—The No. 20-ranked Limestone College men’s soccer team opened its season with a 6-2 win against Reinhardt College on Saturday afternoon. Five Saints scored in the win as five more tallied assists.

“I’m very pleased with the overall team effort today,” said Saints Head Coach Eric Alsop. “It was a good first game. There was good energy and rhythm from start to finish.”

Limestone scored three goals in the first half. Sean Boyle (Galway, Ireland) tallied the first point as Adam Ennis (Lanarkshire, Scotland) picked up the assist. Ali Benson (Hull, England) scored off a pass from Tyrone Hall (Glen Burnie, Md.), and Andrew Sousa (Fall River, Mass.) got an assist on Michael McEmerson’s (Glasgow, Scotland) goal. Reinhardt’s only goal in the first half came on a penalty kick.

Tom Beattie (Goole, England), assisted by Griffin Roxbury (Tuscon, Ariz.), scored Limestone’s first goal in the second period. McEmerson got another goal as Liam Brown (North Lanarkshire, Scotland) was credited with the assist. Miles Jackson (Baltimore, Md.) notched the Saints final goal of the game as Roxbury got his second assist of the day. Reinhardt’s second goal was the result of a penalty kick with nine minutes left to play.

Limestone goalkeeper Kyle Schmaltz (Goose Creek, S.C.) recorded seven saves for the contest while J.C. Gypin (West Columbia, S.C.) finished out the game.

The Saints outshot the Eagles 18-9, and had five corner kicks to the hosts’ zero.

Limestone hosts Newberry on Wednesday, August 29 at 4 p.m. at Saints Field in Gaffney, S.C.
