LIMESTONE MEN’S LACROSSE TO MAKE 8TH CONSECUTIVE NCAA TOURNAMENT APPEARANCE; SAINTS TO FACE LEMOYNE IN TOURNAMENT SEMIFINAL |
The Limestone College men’s lacrosse team will make its eighth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division II national tournament as the Saints will take on LeMoyne in Syracuse, N.Y., on May 19 or 20. Mercyhurst (12-1 overall) will take on New York Tech (10-1) in the other Division II semifinal match-up. LeMoyne, the defending national champion, is 4-1 all-time against the Saints (14-1), with two of those wins coming in 2006. The Dolphins (13-2) handed Limestone a 13-4 loss in March, and eliminated the Saints from the 2006 NCAA tournament with a 22-3 victory in the semifinals. The NCAA Championship game will take place on May 27 at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Md. The game is hosted by Johns Hopkins University, the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, Loyola College, and Towson University. Notes: Limestone has advanced to the NCAA Championship Final in six of its last seven appearances in the tournament as the Saints took home the title in 2000 and 2002. Current Head Coach Mike Cerino led Limestone to its first national championship in 2000. Cerino has led four squads to the NCAA National tournament as he guided the Saints to the 2000 and 2007 postseason berths, and led Washington & Lee University to two appearances in the NCAA Division III tournament. |
